In
may the NBA’s board of governors will meet to discuss the topic of allowing
advertising on NBA jerseys. If allowed it will happen sooner than you think and
players will wear advertisements. It’s said that it could bring in 31.8 million
in ad revenue from just TV exposure alone. Most owner’s im sure will have no problem with it, who
doesn't want to make some more money? Owner of the Dallas Mavericks Mark Cuban
who is vocally lobbying to get ads on jerseys in the NBA, Cuban said “if
somebody offers us 25 million it’s done, we just have to work out the split
with all the teams so everybody gets the benefits”. For us the fans it does
nothing and I for one wouldn't care to see my Chicago bulls sporting ads on their jerseys,
it takes away from them. Pistons Kyle Singler is sporting an ad in Spain’s
ACB league for Mmt Seguros a Spanish insurance company. In a recent article in
the Detroit
news Dirk Nowitizki said “I think we all understand the NBA, by now one of the
biggest businesses in the world and if that's a business decision I don't think
it's a bad one”. I shouldn't be so shocked but i find it ridiculous that all
everyone cares about is money; I would pass up the money to keep the classic
jerseys. What do we as the fans get for the ads, nothing. Are the ads going to
look like the ones in the euro league or are they going to be small and simple.Doubtful, knowing some company's that will most likely be advertising they will
have big colorful ads so all you do is focus on the ad. You won't find me
buying one of those jerseys with the ads on them; I better go and stock up now
before the jerseys with ads come out.
